Fashion is a word with many hidden facets. I started following fashion after I got the chance to visit Indian Runway Fashion Week. After visiting the fashion show I got an opportunity to understand the reason why it is important to follow the latest trends in fashion.

Fashion not only defines a particular’s lifestyle, but it also becomes a medium to express the recognition. Where on one hand some adopt fashion expressing their profession, on the other hand, some adopt a fashion to express social issues. One such issue was raised by the fashion leading lights at the event.

The main focus of Indian Runway Fashion Week, 2017 was to raise the problem of Social injustice and inequality through fashion. It was the 9th instalment, three-day galas, held at DLF Place Mall in Saket.

Social injustice happens when society becomes resistance towards a particular individual or towards a particular section of the group of individuals. One can measure social injustice based upon the distribution of income, opportunities available for an individual to develop and other social privileges.

In Western as well as in older Asian cultures, the concept of social justice has often referred to the process of ensuring that individuals fulfil their societal roles and receive what was their due from society. In the current global grassroots movements for social justice, the emphasis has been on the breaking of barriers for social mobility, the creation of safety nets and economic justice.

The Indian Fashion Runway Week supported the LGBT community. The LGBT community or GLBT community, also referred to as the gay community, is a loosely defined grouping of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) and LGBT - supportive people, organizations, and subcultures, united by a common culture and social movements.

The main guest of the evening was Ms Geeta Kapoor and the fashion style was set by Akash K Aggarwal, also known for his contributions in the fashion world of LGBT community.
